Today, I introduced the Governor’s Right to Inspect Act of 2026 to ensure governors can conduct oversight visits to immigration detention facilities and help safeguard the health, safety, and basic human rights of those in custody. Transparency and accountability are essential.

Families belong together.

My amendment makes clear that HUD must continue serving mixed-status families, as Congress intended, and reject policies that would separate households or displace eligible residents.

Housing stability and family unity must remain a priority.

The work continues and so does my commitment to justice and inclusion for all.

Today, I visited the Delaney Hall Detention Facility for congressional oversight.

Detainees have been on strike since last Friday, demanding humane conditions after reports of spoiled foods, freezing temperatures, and inadequate medical care. Every person deserved safety and basic human rights.
